This course is designed to offer students with professional expertise required to organize, plan and manage human and material resources on site and to ensure that the building of storm drainage, sanitary sewer and water distribution systems of a building runs to time within the planned budget.

    COURSE OBJECTIVE

    • To provide students with adequate knowledge on the applied ways to plan, coordinate, budget and oversee construction projects from their developmental phase to their completion phase.
    • To equip students with practical applications of the professional managerial aspects of construction projects.
    • To train students in practical work related to the advertising and marketing of the products and services of drainage, sanitary sewer and water distribution systems of a building.
    • To teach students the operational ways of applying the procedures of structural and concrete analysis of a building.
    • To help students to learn how to come out with business plans and proposals for construction of storm drainage, sanitary sewer and water distribution systems of a building.
    • To educate students on the practical aspects of the use of computer aided softwares to perform geometric, multi-view, projection section views, dimensioning and solid modelling construction.

    COURSE OUTCOMES

    Having successfully completed this course, the student should be able to

    • Prepare and negotiate cost estimates, budgets and work timetables for the building of storm drainage, structural, sanitary sewer and water distribution systems.
    • Use computer aided softwares to perform geometric, multi-view, projection section views, dimensioning and solid modelling construction.
    • Market and promote the products and services of storm drainage, sanitary sewer and water distribution systems of a building.
    • Apply the use of computer aided softwares to implement geometric, multi-view projection, section views, dimensioning and solid modelling construction.
    • Perform effectively in the general operational work of construction management.
    • Perform structural and concrete analysis procedures of a building.

    COURSE CONTENT

    1. STRUCTURAL DESIGN

    The key aim of this module is for students to apply the practical skills in the development of structural systems using operational strategies and plans at a construction site.

    1. PROPOSAL SUBMISSION

    This models seeks to put in place practical work related to the development of proposals and plans for the implementation of design works related to the drainage systems, sanitary sewer systems, and distribution systems as well as daily report submission of work done at the construction site

    1. COST AND FINANCE ANALYSIS

    This module deals with the creation of budgets and estimates for manpower, materials, consumables, equipment and tools cost as well as production cost prior to the execution of installing the structural systems in the building.

    1. TECHNICAL SALES

    This module will help students to apply the practical skills of the promotion of the products and services of structural systems, drainage systems, sanitary sewer systems and distribution systems of a building to contractors at the construction site.

    1. ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT

    This module would provide students with practical skills involving the technical feasibility studies of a building, validation, development, costing and economic analysis of a building during construction.

    1. STRUCTURAL AND CONCRETE ANALYSIS

    This module seeks to provide students with practical skills related to the procedures of structural and concrete analysis which includes structural planning, action of forces and computation of loads, methods of analysis, member design and detailing, drawing and preparation of schedules.

    1. CONSTRUCTION GRAPHICS

    This module would train students in the use of computer softwares such as Autodesk AutoCAD and Google SketchUp to perform geometric construction, multi-view, projection section views, dimensioning and solid modelling construction.
