COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • To provide students with practical know-how about the development of structural designs for walls, roofs, openings and light and space of a building.
  • To equip students with practical skills on the preparation of financial documents, reports and budgets of the structural systems of a building
  • To train students to apply the practical know-how involving the validation, development, practical feasibility studies, costing and economic analysis during the implementation of structural designs of a building.
  • To train students to gain practical knowledge on the standard safety procedure practice at the construction site.
  • To educate students in the development of proposals including the design layout and specifications implementation of the structural system designs of a building.

COURSE OUTCOMES

Having successfully completed this course, the student should be able to

  • Develop structural designs for walls, roofs, openings and light and space of a building
  • Present and explain business proposals and reports about the structural systems of a building.
  • Practice safety procedure measures at the construction site.
  • Market and promote the products and services of structural systems of a building
  • Perform effectively in the general operational  and management work of architectural engineers at onsite and construction companies and firms.

COURSE CONTENT

  1. STRUCTURAL DESIGN

The key aim of this module is to provide students with the practical skills in the development of structural designs for walls, roofs. Openings and light and space systems of a building a construction site.

  1. FINANCE AND COST ANALYSIS

This module seeks to provide practical skills to students in the preparation of financial documents, reports and budgets of the construction of structural systems of a building.

  1. PROPOSAL SUBMISSION

This models seeks to help students to gain operational skills in the development of proposals including the design layout and specifications of the structural system designs of a building.

  1. CONSTRUCTION SAFETY

This module seeks to provide student with hands-on–experience on the safety procedures observed at a construction site.

  1. STRUCTURAL MANAGEMENT

This module deals with the practical know-how involving the validation, development, practical feasibility studies, costing and economic analysis during the implementation of structural designs of a building.
