- To equip students with practical skills and knowledge to be able to write and present information in a style that sustains reader, listener or viewer interest, avoiding personal opinion, unsubstantiated claims and empty prose writing cogently in a structure that is appropriate for the chosen media platform, while producing accurate stories based on verified, analyzed and interpreted facts, using multiple sources and methods.
- To give students the an understanding of concepts, principles and theories of communications giving them the ability to effectively deliver oral presentations for various audiences and contexts with a demonstration of research skills including the ability to express original arguments using research data, and interpreting various types of evidence.
- To give students practical knowledge and understanding of communications practitioners’ professional qualities and ethical standards with which they can execute tasks in a prudent, balanced and expedient manner which gives value to the organization.
- To help students develop a realistic understanding of key communication skills necessary for leadership and participation in diverse communication settings, including broadcast media environments, corporate communications, public sector etc.
Upon completion of this course;
- Student will acquire practical knowledge of communication studies with an understanding and application of the academic literature of different fields of communication studies; including mass media, organizational, business communication, journalism, strategic communication, research and development.
- Students will have an understanding and critical reflection of occupational, regulatory, ethical, technological, economic, and cultural factors in communication and different media industries, and be able to assess their impact with ability to apply the impact analysis in decision making and task execution in the real world of work.
- Students will also have a practical knowledge and be able to apply research methods and analysis in the design and execution of communication projects, independently or in a team.
- Students will gain insight into the functioning and be able to critically analyze data and communication processes of media companies, as well as governments, business firms and other organizations and assist in problem solving and strategic planning.
- Students will be highly skilled in oral and written communication and be able to successfully address diverse audiences.
- Students will have a practical understanding of the ethical aspects of the work and the social responsibilities of professional communicators in different contexts such as interpersonal, small group and organizational communication, journalism, new media, public relations and marketing, in a comparative intercultural perspective.

- Journalism Reporting & Writing Techniques

The course generally explores a variety of digital and interactive mediums, ranging from online advertising, streaming and audio and video, social media/digital PR, SEM/SEO, gaming, and digital out of home. Students will also explore issues related to digital ethics and privacy with students understanding how to develop strategic plans to guide the development of an integrated interactive media plan for a real client.
- Broadcast Journalism Practice: Radio & Television
>>>This course generally deals with the practices, ethics and standards for radio and television broadcasting, giving students a practical knowledge of broadcast journalism concepts and theories as well as their application. It stresses brevity and conversational style of writing, arts of interviewing, radio and TV presenting styles, news gathering, editing for broadcast etc. Students will also learn how to write radio and TV news story scripts; preparing students for any job role in a broadcast organization.
